Rudders

NACA produces traditional and flap rudder designs. The most efficient rudder design is made by selecting the appropriate rudder blade profile according to the ship type and speed. In low-speed ships, a bulbous naval profile is preferred up to 18 kn, a medium naval profile is preferred between 18-25 kn, and a thin naval profile is preferred between 23-26 kn.
The classic or traditional rudder series provides an economical way to increase the maneuverability of most ships without rudder angle limitations, thanks to optimized profile designs.
This rudder series is manufactured as full-oar rudders with three different standard profiles and no rudder angle restrictions to provide optimum maneuverability for passengers, cargo ships and high-speed boats.

The flap rudder produces more side force than a conventional rudder of equivalent size. Depending on the shipowner's requirements, paddle rudders may be used to reduce the overall area of ​​the rudder while maintaining equal buoyancy forces, or may be used when high maneuverability is needed. Therefore, a good understanding of the ship owner's requirements is vital when designing a rudder. Rudders can also be optimized for higher speeds, and the leading edge of the rudder can be bent to improve the rudder's efficiency and cavitation properties.
